Church History
In October 2008, Word of Truth Church was established with a vision in mind to be set apart and to become more than just ‘another’ church on the corner. Our founder and Pastor, Elder Gerald W. Rose sought out to do God’s will by obeying the voice of the Lord. After much prayer and fasting he answered the call to lead the congregation of Word of Truth Church. With only a home keyboard and a tambourine to its name, Word of Truth Church opened its doors for morning worship on Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Hilton Garden in Florence, SC.
Each week services were held at the Hilton Garden for Sunday morning and evening worship. With only a few faithful members, the Lord opened the windows of heaven and poured out an abundance of blessings. The Lord’s presence was felt not only by those faithful members of Word of Truth, but the hotel staff as well. They too were indeed blessed spiritually as they used their break-time to join in on the worship service. It was clear that Word of Truth quickly became an outlet for them to be able to worship on Sunday. Not only did the Lord pour out his spirit, but he blessed financially as well. The hotel waived the security deposit and donations began to pour in from outside contributors. Each week there was something new to report.
Shortly thereafter, the Lord touched Pastor Rose’s heart to start searching for a new home for the church. On November 17, 2008, the Lord blessed Word of Truth to find a building that met the church’s needs and specifications. The Lord blessed once again where the security deposit was waived, thus saving the church over $900. With only nine official members, Word of Truth Church moved to its new location in December 2008.
Upon moving to our new location we quickly saw that we had our work cut out for us. There was no carpet; no office, no chairs, and the 2nd restroom needed repairs. In spite of all of that, God blessed us where all of the above was completed within a short period of time. We give God all the praise for the great things He has done! We thank Him for all the ways He has made for us. We are also blessed to have acquired 5.5 acres of land for the future home of Word of Truth Church in 2011. Saints, you can’t beat God’s giving!
Since that faithful day in 2008, the congregation of Word of Truth has grown and the ministry has indeed become “A place where everybody is somebody and Jesus Christ is Lord”. Our faith has been tested and tried, but God keeps proving just how awesome He is. Trials and tribulations have come our way, but by the grace of God, we are “Going Forward and Not Looking Back”. After years of hard work and many sacrifices, Word of Truth moved to its new location at 1750 E. National Cemetery Road on August 28, 2021. We honor our Lord and Savior on today, because without Him, we are nothing. We anticipate greater things to come as we continue to do His will and His promises are fulfilled.
